OSS Honored on the Global Stage at UNESCO!

On June 11, 2025, during the grand commemoration of the 50th anniversary of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) was celebrated as a pillar of excellence in hydrological cooperation. A distinguished recognition trophy was awarded to Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of OSS, in tribute to over thirty years of unwavering leadership and concrete action in sustainable water management, capacity development, and knowledge exchange across Africa. This honor reflects more than a legacy—it reflects a vision.

A vision of an Africa that is resilient, united, and forward-thinking. An Africa where water is no longer a point of contention, but a driver of peace, progress, and transformation. OSS extends its heartfelt thanks to UNESCO, the IHP, and all its partners for this prestigious recognition. It reaffirms our collective mission: to make hydrological science a force for stability, equity, and sustainable development.  Together, let’s shape a future where water unites us, safeguards our ecosystems, and inspires generations to come.
